Project X; an Intro
On February 18, 2020, NASA launched a challenge: Exploring Hell: Avoiding Obstacles on a Clockwork Rover. This challenge asks contestants to provide designs for a low tech obstacle avoidance system suitable for use on a Venus rover. The prize for winning this challenge is $15,000. At this point Ether Aerospace runs on a extremely small budget that often limits the scale of our projects. A prize of this magnitude would significantly increase our capabilities and possibly allow us to take on even more ambitious projects.
While we would like to share our progress with this challenge, unlike Project Redirect, there is a real risk that posting our progress and ideas during the contest could compromise our chances of winning. Therefore, we will document our progress as usual, delaying publication until after the challenge is complete. The first post of Project X will be revealed on June 1, 2020.
In the meantime, we could use your help in coming up with a name for this project. If you wish to suggest a name you can put it in the comments of this post or send it to us here. As a final note, during the duration of this challenge we will be spending less time on Project Redirect. But, we will continue to post regular progress updates, albeit at a slightly slower pace.
